Affiliate Tips

Affiliate marketing is progressively becoming a more popular method of attempting to create income, especially for those who wish to work from home.  Unfortunately, the majority of affiliate promoters are making very little (if any) money.  Still, there are affiliate promoters who are very successful and are earning large sums of money.  There are even some enterprising individuals who have been successful enough to "fire" their bosses and pursue affiliate marketing as a sole income.  While marketing techniques used for promoting affiliate programs vary tremendously depending on the individual marketer and the type of products and/or services being promoted, there are number of things that these top affiliate marketers share in common.  Most of the highest earning affiliate "superstars" are using at least some (if not all) of the following techniques.

  • While affiliate programs are a great way to earn extra income, no affiliate program should be viewed as a "get-rich-quick" scheme.  Top affiliate promoters realize that they are running a legitimate business and make their decisions accordingly.  Running a business takes time, effort and knowledge.  You must be willing to invest this time and effort into your business in order to reap rewards from it.  If you are expecting to make large sums of money without working at it, you are wasting your time working with affiliate programs.  But, on the other hand, if you are willing to invest some time to learn and implement successful marketing techniques, you are very likely to find yourself running a successful, profitable business.

  • In order to be successful in any business venture, advertising is a necessity.  Without advertising, no one will ever even know your business exists.

  • Advertising or marketing any opportunity is a dynamic activity and top promoters spend time evaluating their statistics and varying their marketing campaigns accordingly.  You should monitor your click-through status and sales rates frequently and look for upward or downward trends.  If your statistics are not adequate, alter your marketing strategy in response.  Do not continue using an unsuccessful marketing strategy.  Experiment with different strategies and find the strategy that works best for you.

  • Successful affiliate promoters are constantly analyzing their marketing campaigns and looking for ways to improve them.  Remember, even the most successful marketing campaign has room for improvement.  Never settle for "good enough".

  • While it is important to spend time working on your affiliate website and offers, marketing them is what brings customers and earnings.  Successful promoters generally spend the majority of their time marketing their offers.  Try to spend 75-80% of your time marketing your website and products.  Most people instead spend 80-90% of their time working on their website, affiliate programs and offers instead of marketing them.  Try keeping track of the amount of time (and money) you spend on these activities and see where your habits fall.  Change them if necessary.

  • Though there are many different avenues to get your offers in front of potential customers, search engines (especially the larger ones such as Google and Yahoo) continue to be the most popular and successful method.  Whether you use search engine optimization, Pay Per Click (PPC) or a combination of the two, you will be more successful if you can achieve top search engine rankings.

  • Text links tend to produce more clicks than banner links.  Though banners are the "traditional" form of advertising, consumers are beginning to tire of them and tend to ignore them.  Text links are more likely to create enough interest to initiate a click.  (First Class Cash Flow Handlers offers numerous text links, some directed to the main "Products and Services" page and some directed to individual product pages, all available for your usage.)

  • Information is the currency of trade in today's atmosphere.  Because most people come to a particular site looking for information, publishing an article can be a very successful way to attract visitors and potential sales.  Make sure the article includes a clickable link to visit the appropriate website or product page.  (First Class Cash Flow Handlers offers several articles which you are free to copy and add to your website.)

  • Make sure that the products and/or services you offer are consistent with your website content.  For example, advertising a book such as "How To Sell Your Home Fast In Good Or Bad Markets" would be a good fit for a site focusing on real estate.  However, it is unlikely to create much interest for visitors to a site focusing on health and fitness.

  • This last item may not make much sense, but it is a proven fact.  Many people will not click on a link which they are able to identify as an affiliate link, even if they are interested in the product advertised.  Some people may even delete the affiliate ID and visit the site directly.  You can avoid this problem by cloaking your links.  Click here to produce a cloaked link for your advertisements.

  • Avoid over usage of the word  "free".  Consumers will become desensitized if they see it in print on your site too often and will condition themselves to ignore it.  Use it sparingly, perhaps to offer a free report or other product as a reward for purchase.

Now you know some of the things that the most successful affiliate promoters do to make their businesses so profitable.  Try some (or better yet, all) of the above techniques and boost yourself into the ranks of the top sales affiliates.
